OCD is a condition which causes people to feel a strong, unsettling need to perform certain rituals and maintain order. Obsessive-compulsive people who have an extreme fear of germs, for instance, will wash their hands over and over again, sometimes until they reach a particular number.

OCD can be more than compulsive hand-washing, though. Did you know that OCD can get so serious that it can make a person stop eating? One mother writes about when this happened to her son with OCD, describing her reaction as “frightened and confused.”
