TV Viewing May Have an Effect on Kids’ Sleep

We’ve all heard the debate over whether violent television shows and games have an effect on children. While we still don’t know for sure the effects of exposure to staged violence has on a child’s behavior, we may have an idea of how it affects his or her health.

Children tend to insist that they can handle watching a television show geared toward an older audience. As a parent, you may be tempted to give in, but it may actually be harmful to your child’s health.

A study shows that children who watch violent TV programs are more likely to suffer from nightmares. These disturbances in sleep can hurt a child’s development and heighten anxiety and irritability. This, in turn, may hurt his or her performance in school.
